This section collects slides and photographs
of images regarding Verdi’s operas: set and costume designs,
stage props, stage design models (maquettes), photographs
of stage productions, photographs of Verdi, of singers and other
musicians.
The documentation begins, wherever possible, from the
first performance of each opera, and allows the researcher to trace
the history of visual interpretation of Verdi’s opera.
The
Istituto has thus far collected about 3,200 images, cataloged with
a detailed, specially conceived system. An important part of the
collection is the reproduction of Verdi-related visual material
from the archive of the Teatro La Fenice of Venice, lost in the fire
that destroyed the theater in January 1996, an the collection from
the Rome Opera, which documents all the Verdi productions from the
year 1900.
