The Institute’s historical archive

The archive of the National Institute for Verdi Studies covers the activity period from 1940 to 1999, concentrating its production in terms of documents from 1960 to 1990.

Most of the documentation is about the correspondence of the first General Manager of the Institute, Mario Medici, whose many sent letters are preserved, and allow us to understand with a good level of approximation the nature of the correspondence; many of these letters are referring to collaborations in publishing of the Institute and a big part of them, invitations to participate to international conferences about Verdi studies promoted by the Institute. Among other folders of established historical interest, already subject of recent research, we find the ones concerning the Institute’s role in the planning and realisation of the “Festival Verdi” in Parma (starting from 1980).
