Carteggio Verdi – Ricordi 1893

Edited by Dario De Cicco (2016)

The correspondence between Giuseppe Verdi and Giulio Ricordi of 1893 is characterised by two events of great relevance in the lives of both: the realization of that big “dream” that the première of Falstaff in Verona represented (9th February 1893) and the eightieth birthday of the Maestro (10th October 1893). The communication between the correspondents revolves around these magnets with the contribution of those who were part of their respective lives: the wives Giuseppina Strepponi and Giuditta Brivio, Arrigo Boito and the conductor Edoardo Mascheroni.

Correspondence published in the book depicts two stimulating lives full of interests and social relations and at the same time a profound, friendly relationship between them, in no way altered by the aging of the Maestro. A documentation of great value, showing us many aspects of the experiences made by Verdi and giving us relevant information about the year 1893, also about the first important shooting of the last masterpiece by Verdi.
